Anna’s Bay Center for Music:
The Soundtrack of Hood Canal

Music and wine pairings. Seafood with symphony. Opera at sunset. Sound interesting? It is. Ask anyone who’s been, and you’ll probably hear that the Anna’s Bay Center for Music is the perfect audio compliment to the breathtaking beauty that surrounds Hood Canal. Located just down the road from Alderbrook Properties at Harmony Hill in Union - the site of Washington State’s first art colony - Anna’s Bay provides world-class musical experiences and salon-style performances that charm local residents and visitors alike.

As a local nonprofit organization, Anna’s Bay is adding to the myriad of activities available on the Canal by helping connect residents and out-of-towners alike to a musical experience that sounds as beautiful as the Canal looks. At Anna’s Bay, guests get to see, taste, and smell the music - not just hear it.

Founded and led by general director Matthew Melendez Blegen, Anna’s Bay offers “music that brings people into harmony, with themselves and each other” by producing and presenting “world-class art music in novel ways that reach out to and enthuse new listeners, revitalize modern performance practice and enrich our local community.” The 2008 season is well underway, and there are several special upcoming events that are sure to delight:

On May 30, Anna’s Bay hosts the first annual Directors’ Circle Gala to launch the 2008/09 season. Free to all Anna’s Bay members who support the organization by giving $10 per month or more, this special event will feature Seattle guest artists, the Anna’s Bay Chorale, the Mosquito Fleet, and the new Hood Canal Youth Choir. Guests can enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres selections coordinated by International Pinot Noir Festival Culinary Curator Anne Nisbet.

In addition, on May 31, the Anna’s Bay Chorale, Mosquito Fleet and Hood Canal Youth Choir will perform in So Happy Together - featuring hits of the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s at the Shelton High School Auditorium, free of charge. For more information, call 360-898-5000 or email info@annasbay.org.

Anna’s Bay and Harmony Hill co-host Raised Voices- a series of sing-along events. Guests come to sing along with classic movies like the Sound of Music and Grease. These free events will continue every other month through December, when the series concludes with a holiday special - Fireside Cookies and Carols.

In addition to Raised Voices, Anna’s Bay will partner with the adult and children’s music ensembles and Shelton High School to present Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoatcoming this summer. And, a professional music program is in the works for fall to feature professional musicians and vocalists from Seattle, Portland, and beyond. Plus, exciting holiday programs are being developed including an accapella choral Christmas program.

For Hood Canal, Anna’s Bay offers an expansive repertoire of vocal performances and small instrumental groups that connects and enriches the local community with music. For artists and audiences, it provides the opportunity to make and enjoy music in this beautiful setting with the waters of Hood Canal in front and the pristine Olympic Mountains above.
