Ready, Set, Launch:
Hood Canal’s Boating Season Opens with New Fuel Dock
The opening of Puget Sound’s boating season this year includes a very special, football-sized addition to the Hood Canal Marina - the first fuel dock to take residence on the pristine waters of the Canal in over ten years.
Starting May 1, the new station is open for business and hopes to attract yacht and recreational boat owners who - until now - were hesitant to travel to the Canal without a place to fuel up. The dock will reside close to a five star resort that sits on the waterfront at the south end of Hood Canal, and just down the hill from Alderbrook Golf and Yacht Club and Alderbrook Properties. In addition to fueling, the dock will also offer amenities like 30 spots for short- and long-term moorage for boats as large as 80 feet long and hopes to promote Alderbrook Resort as a full-service resort operation. Local business owners hope that the project will stimulate boating and water sport activity and bring life back to Hood Canal this summer.
The new facility will be much more rugged and environmentally friendly than the older docks that once served the area. The floats that support the docks are sealed, and the decks are made of composite materials that don’t rot or leak toxic materials into the water. The nearby boat launch at Twanoh State Park is perfect for water sport enthusiasts who want to get out on the water for the day, and the new fueling dock will also allow vacationing boaters and yachters to travel through the Canal with nearby access to fuel throughout their journey.
Many visitors and residents at Alderbrook Golf and Yacht Club (AGYC) and Alderbrook Properties often ask, “so where’s the yacht?” In fact, the original members of AGYC chose to add the “yacht club” moniker to the golf club name because many shared a passion for boating, fishing, shrimping, and crabbing on Hood Canal. While AGYC doesn’t really have “yacht club” facilities, the maritime spirit is alive and well - and boating or yachting is becoming even more accessible with the addition of the new fueling dock. Whether you’re a boating enthusiast looking for a new place to dock, or simply excited about the opportunity to have a home just minutes away from one of Puget Sounds most beautiful waterways, we’d love to talk to you today about what could be yours at Alderbrook.
