Alderbrook Anticipates New Homes,
New Clubhouse, and More in 2008

Need another reason to come see what awaits you at Alderbrook on Hood Canal?
“We bought our vacation home one year ago and it has been an absolute dream to have a beautiful home surrounded by mountains, water, and forests. As Seattle residents, we especially appreciate the peaceful escape that Alderbrook provides after a busy work week in the city. The beauty never fails to impress us as we make the drive along the Canal. The warm summers are perfect for golf, kayaking, or wimming in the Canal, to perfect snow for cross-country skiing in the winter — this area has it all. It’s the best thing we’ve ever done for ourselves and our children. We love it!”

Alderbrook Community Prepares
for New Clubhouse
The Alderbrook Golf and Yacht Club (AGYC) will be torn down and rebuilt in March 2008 and is expected to emerge new and improved by the end of the year, offer residents even more first class amenities - including an 8,000 square foot clubhouse and community center - to their top-rated golf course. The new building, complete with card room, library, pro shop, administrative offices,
food service, meeting facilities, and terrace room, is designed to reflect the Pacific Northwest and will include a covered circular driveway and natural materials inside and out. In addition to structural upgrades, AGYC will also rebuild the parking lot, install a new putting green, and
enlarge the pond at the 18th green to bring more water into play.
“Hats off to the membership,” said General Manager Rick Verbarendse. “This has all happened because of their overwhelming support and enthusiasm.”
Verbarendse, a PGA professional, has been general manager of AGYC since January 2007. He and his wife Cathy, moved to Alderbrook after spending ten years in the high desert of Klamath Falls, Oregon. Verbarendse says he’s enjoyed every day he’s been here, boasting that the beauty and charm of this community nestled above Hood Canal is almost beyond description.
And what does a PGA professional think about the
course? “It might just be the most demanding 6,300 yard course you have ever played,” said Verbarendse. “It’s undulating greens and fairways protected by mature evergreen trees will challenge even the most
accomplished of players while fair and enjoyable for all skill levels.”
In addition to loving the golf at Alderbrook, Verbarendse also thinks
fondly of the community living around the course. “The residents have a way of making everyone feel like family,” he said. “Alderbrook is more than a community, it’s a family who cares for and helps each other. I
know because my wife and I have experienced it first hand.”
