Summer is prime time to explore Alderbrook above Hood Canal, and check out the many fairs, festivals, concerts, and golfing activities that await visitors of all ages. Whether you like browsing outdoor markets in search of fresh, locally-grown produce; want to enjoy a picnic dinner while listening to live, local music; or are looking for an opportunity to work on your swing; Hood Canal visitors and residents alike have a myriad of options just around the corner — and some in their own backyards. Markets
Every Saturday, vendors, gardeners, and artists set up and display their work and products at local farmers markets in Belfair and Shelton. Starting at 9am, come and enjoy music, friends, and locally produced, organically grown produce - all from local Hood Canal communities. Find anything and everything from gifts, flowers, garden plants, jewelry, arts and crafts — and that’s just the beginning. The Belfair Farmers Market is open in downtown Belfair and the Shelton Farmers Market is located on 3rd street between Cedar and Franklin in downtown Shelton — both through September. Music
Experience the sounds of local musicians during the free outdoor concert series in Shelton — Music in the Park. Starting at 7pm, throughout July and August music appreciators of all ages can pack up the picnic supplies and lawn chairs and head to Shelton Post Office Park to enjoy a great mix of music from jazz to swing, rock to folk, Latin to big band. The 2008 lineup includes: Maia Santell and House Blend; the Varmints; JC Hyke; Wise Cracker; The Randy Baugh’s Band; Reincarnation of Rock & Roll; Runaway Train; and Swing Fever. Fairs
The 2008 Centennial Mason County Fair and Rodeo will celebrate its 100th year on July 25-27 with free gate admission. Along with another year of heart stopping rodeo action, the fair will feature carnival rides and a concert with leading country star, Trent Tomlinson. Other events include shows by magician Jeff Evans and master hypnotist Jerry Harris. At the rodeo, come see cowboys and cowgirls from five western states and Canada and events like barrel racing, team roping, bareback riding, steer wrestling, bull riding, break away roping, wild cow milling, and stick horse races for kids 10 and under. Golf
On Sunday, July 27 Alderbrook Properties will host 10 winners and their guest on a tour of Alderbrook Properties homes and then a round of golf at the championship, 18-hole course at Alderbrook Golf Club — rated one of the top 25 Pacific Northwest courses. This event, sponsored by KING radio and Alderbrook Properties, will give winners the opportunity to tour our craftsmen-style homes, have some lunch, and enjoy a round of golf on the 6,338 yard, par 72 course surrounded by scenic beauty and panoramic greenery. Rolling fairways bordered by massive evergreen trees showcase the breathtaking views of the Olympic Mountains and Hood Canal waters. The course winds through the surrounding Alderbrook community and a number of lots waiting to be paired with Alderbrook Properties craftsman style homes. Players can take a shot at the unique and diverse challenges including the infamous 8th hole, a double dogleg, 536 yard par 5.
